A highly requested feature, cross-play, is making its way to F1 22 this month. between 5-7 and 12-14 August, players across PlayStation, Xbox and PC will be able to play with each other in Social Race and Two-Player Career modes. After these trials, full integration is expected for the end of August.
With this announcement, F1 22 will be the first sim to connect these 3 platforms.
This means, there will be no more hardware-related exclusivity for the title race of best sim racers. Therefore, to become esports drivers, players may not need to get extra hardware but can choose to drive on their already owned system.
Players will have the opportunity to turn off cross-play to only play with others on the same devices.
A session host can "Invite Friends" in the game lobby. This option will include cross-platform players.
Players can review and accept requests whilst racing by pausing the game and visiting the ‘Invites and Requests’ option.
“Cross-play also allows us to create better matchmaking opportunities so players can compete against rival racers with similar attributes.”
Personally, this seems like a good sign to come. Other sims now have to step up their game to keep up with this development. And uniting otherwise divided player bases is a beautiful thing.
