As a brand-new event to the real-life World Rally Championship calendar, the Central European Rally was only added to EA Sports WRC in December 2023. Many rally fans were looking forward to the new location – but it also introduced some grave issues to the game.

For some players, this resulted in their career mode saves becoming unplayable, potentially even losing their saved data altogether. This unfolded right before the holidays as well, so players were not exactly happy about EA Sports announcing that the EA Sports WRC career fix update would not be available until mid-January 2024. Many had planned to continue their career modes over the Christmas break, but could not to so as a result.

EA Sports WRC Career Fix Update: Console Performance Improved

Now, update v1.4.1 is in the starting blocks. Set for release on January 18, 11 am UTC, it fixes the career mode issue and a few more bugs. Several stages of Rally Chile had track limit detection issues, resulting in players being reset for allegedly cutting the course in certain hairpins even though they stayed within the limits. Update 1.4.1 resolves these issues.

Furthermore, the bug of the AI becoming extremely slow after resuming career or championship events will also be solved. Additionally, console performance has been addressed, particularly concerning the excessive screen tearing players faced.

EA Sports WRC v.14.1 Patch Notes

Crash Fixes

  • Fixed an issue in which some players would experience a game crash when resuming Career.

AI

  • Fixed an issue in which AI performance would dramatically decrease when resuming an in-progress Career or Championship Event.

Locations

  • Chile – Bio Bio – Fixed an issue in which a penalty reset line was placed too close to a specific hairpin’s apex.
  • Chile – Pulpería – Fixed an issue in which a penalty reset line was placed too close to a specific hairpin’s apex.
  • Chile – María Las Cruces – Fixed an issue in which a penalty reset line was placed too close to a specific hairpin’s apex.
  • Chile – Las Pataguas – Fixed an issue in which a penalty reset line was placed too close to a specific hairpin’s apex.
  • Chile – Chivilingo – Fixed an issue in which a penalty reset line was placed too close to a specific hairpin’s apex.

Performance

  • Addressed an issue on console that was causing additional screen tearing in frontend menus after the v1.4.0 update.
  • Addressed an issue on console that was causing additional screen tearing after excessive use of the pause menu.
  • Performance on console should now be similar to before v1.4.0. We will continue to investigate and address performance issues on console and PC in future updates.

Version 1.4.1 is a comparatively small update then, but extremely important for the title. For the next bigger update to v1.5, only VR implementation is left as a confirmed feature. An important element to many sim racers, VR did not carry over from DiRT Rally 2.0, where it was also added after launch.

I am positive surprised with the FFB and content of the Game.

The career is also OK however there is a BIG BUT - many of the career stages are ridiculously unbalanced.
Sometimes you win by over a minute then you loose next stage by 2 minutes or something.

And that’s a big game breaker. I hope they will adress some fixes for it in the future

no stutter performance no buy, Oh, there will be no performance stutter fix, so I won't buy.
Use:

Code:
-DX12 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES

In startup parameters.

BTW. I wish AMS2 to pick-up some rally some stuff. That would be nice... :)

My only issue is appalling tarmac physics and FFB, but seems like this is just DirtRally trademark they will never fix.
Compare to iRacing tarmac physics and FFB is amazing because I feel the grip and when it's gone. Problem with tarmac is rather that some Rallys have too little road texture details while Monte and Croatia show it can feel decent. The rain physics on tarmac are IMO stunning and I bet that iRacing won't be close if they ever release it.

Let's hope to god that AC2 gets off-road tyres/content lol...

This WRC game is poop, stupid of me to even buy it thinking it would be anything different. Graphically, it's gone backwards from DR2.0.
I agree - I was excited to get a new WRC game (even tho I am god awful at rally) but when I started really getting into this one... meh

More proof that anything EA touches turns to sh**

This game is garbage, in order to speed up Codemasters purge, EA forced them to make games with the freak Unreal Engine, the disgusting game engine of broken and problematic games.

And the inevitable end, there is no game, there is problematic garbage.

This is a conscious effort to wear down the studio.

I think the same thing will happen in the F1 game next season, it will be done with the broken game engine Unreal Engine.

Codemasters was making quality and trouble-free games thanks to its own game engine EGO.

Now, they are making a game with a completely problematic and broken game engine, thus erasing all its charisma.

This is a conscious and deliberate EA destruction effort.

I hope all of these employees resign and continue with a new studio called 'Re Codemasters' again. Of course, I also wish they would make games with the EGO game engine instead of the freak Unreal Engine.

They had reached the limit of EGO though. Many features that was asked for in DiRT Rally and 2.0 was not possible to implement due to EGO Engine limitations. Like e.g the stage length. We now have over double the length of the DiRT Rally stage length. That's due to EGO, or rather not having EGO anymore.

Not getting UE criticism at all, unless you are VR user, but WRC does not even support one.
What is the issue, after they fixed shaders pre-compilation, it's pretty smooth, looks great too, definitely better and more realistic than DR 2.0 esp. with DLAA and some NVidia sharpening.

This wouldn't be the end of the world for EGO, they could develop their own game engines after all.

Almost all of the broken and performance-prone games that have been released in recent years and recently are due to Unreal Engine.

Anyway, I won't elaborate on the subject, after all, we want racing games that run smoothly as before, and this is our right.

The blurry image is due to low resolution, please understand this.

To improve performance, images are processed much lower and presented that way. (This is the case on PS5 console and we do not have the chance to add sharpen)

Bonus: Screen tearing continues in this infamous game.

I installed the new patch and the blurry image and screen tearing still persist.

When you play with the vehicle tracking camera, there is always a transparent shadow behind the vehicle. (Of course, we do not have the chance to fix an error that occurs with this FSR on the console.)
