Art of Rally’s newest setting, Kenya, is released August 12th, but Funselektor was kind enough to allow me to preview the new stages.
Next week promises to be a big week for developer Funselektor and their Art of Rally title. Not only is the retro-inspired racing game coming to Xbox and Switch, but the Kenya stages will also be released.
I contacted Funselektor and they were kind enough to allow me to be among the first outside of the studio to try the new Kenya stages.
Kenya joins Finland, Germany, Japan, Norway, and Sardinia locations in the title. Unsurprisingly the setting is gorgeous. The brilliant use of lighting and shadows make the trackside animals, trees, grass and water a stunning locale to rally race in. Add rain, fog or night conditions, and those objects become faint or barely discernible outlines, which is beautiful in its own way.
The Kenyan stages range from long, flat, and very fast treks across the desert to mountain ascents. Like the real-world Kenyan rally stages, Art of Rally tests you through long and dusty stages, and Funselektor even thought to add in the occasional washed-out road. There are 6 tracks included in the Kenya location, plus variants of each track.
For those that haven’t yet tried Art of Rally, the title is a fun rally racing game intended to be driven with a controller. The visuals, sounds and general feel of the title give the impression of this being purely a fun game, but Funselektor’s love for the sport of rally racing shines through in various aspects, including the wide selection of vintage rally cars and the unique driving physics of each.
Below is my preview video of the Art of Rally Kenya update. Art of Rally is out now on PC and will be available on Xbox and Switch on August 12th, 2021. The Kenya update will be released the same day.
