Bleekemolen wins the final race in Abu Dhabi
01.11.2009
Jeroen Bleekemolen wins the final race of the 2009 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Abu Dhabi in front of René Rast, who in fact crossed the line first, but received a 1 second penalty right after crossing the finish line. Third on the podium of Abu Dhabi was Richard Westbrook. Konrad Motorsport wins the team championship in front of the VELTINS MRS team. Matt Halliday becomes the best 2009 Rookie in front of Siso Cunill.
Records of Rast and Bleekemolen
"This was a terrific race from René (Rast) and me today”, the last winner of the season, Jeroen Bleekemolen rejoices about his fifth victory of the year. Only seconds before the chequered flag Rast had passed the Konrad pilot, took the lead and crossed the finish line first. “However, it was a tough manoeuvre of René Rast, when he passed me, but it was not completely unfair”, Bleekemolen had a breath of appreciation about the attack of the runner-up. “I was already alongside Bleekemolen, so I didn’t have a chance to draw back.” With six victories René Rast is not only runner-up but also the most successful pilot of the year. Opponent Jerome Bleekemolen also obtains a quite special record – he finished all races of the season on the podium. “That’s a great prove of our constancy and quality”, the twice Supercup champion praises his Konrad team. With clinching 13 podium finishes in a single season, Bleekemolen saves another record in the history books of the Supercup. It’s a unique record, although Emmanuel Collard and Wolf Henzler also fetched podium finishes in all rounds during their championship years – however, with nine and eleven rounds in the respective years it was considerably few races at that time.
