The 2012 Australian Grand Prix will be a Formula One race due to be held on 18 March 2012as the opening round of the 2012 Formula One season. It will be the 77th race in the combined history of the Australian Grand Prix that dates back to the 100 Miles Road Race of 1928, and the 17th time the event has been held at the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit at Albert Park. The race will be the first since the 1973 German Grand Prix not to feature an Italian driver on the grid.The signing of 2007 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen means that six current and former World Drivers' Champions will take part in the race for the first time in the sport's sixty-three year history.The race will also see two debutants, Jean-Éric Vergne and Charles Pic. With Romain Grosjean also returning to the championship, it will be the first race since the 1999 Brazilian Grand Prix to feature three French drivers on the grid.
