Ok so i googled the error message, 3D tools are only part of CS6 Extended, not Vanilla CS6

What's the flat version? The download doesn't have one, so I can't preview my helmet, the tutorial is too quick for me aswell lol

How would you recommend going about editing the textures without the 3D model? For some reason PS doesn't think my graphics card is adequate for it and just rasterizes it as a single 2D layer

Select the layer background and do Color overlay or Gradient overlay. You can combine those. Pattern overlay as well
