40 inch TV for gaming, around £300 or 450€

Hi guys,

I upgraded my PC and got a pretty good rig now but playing on a 22 inches monitor nearly 3 meters (that s about 9 feet for my metric system impaired friends) is simply not that fun. I have been lookng at bigger monitors but they are way too expensive, then I have been looking at TVs and realised that TV makers were a bunch of deceiving liars when it comes to input lag and motion blur. So could you guys point me in the right direction? I do not mind going a bit above £300 or 450€, I also play some shooter games but only with a gamepad (so I do not need the 2ms refresh rate I used to need when I was young and fast) and gaming will be the main purpose. Also, I cannot mount the TV on the wall and my stand is not that big so I would prefer, if possible (not that important), a central stand rather than the "legs" seen on some LG TVs.

The more "smart" capabilities it has, the more input lag it will have. I noticed that on the LG's and Samsungs I play on, the input lag is severe, even when in gaming mode. They just have to many post processing effects. I currently use a Sharp TV, with no noticeable input lag for my console gaming. However, TV's simply aren't really meant for PC gaming, is there no way to get your screen closer and go for a 34" monitor instead?

Sounds to me like you need one of these: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/philips_bdm4065uc.htm I've used one of those now for about 2 months and i'm very pleased with it.

Some users have complained about discoloration/banding, but from what i've read, that's only supposed to show up with some specific combination of solid color against solid backgrounds. Personally i've never noticed anything like that on my screen. Also if possible you should really try to get a bit closer to the screen imo. My eyes are at about 80cm from that 40" monster and i can tell it's quite immersive

Generally, the Sony TVs are good gaming monitors with low input lag.

Thanks for the replies. 34" monitors or the Philips TV are quite a bit above budget, as for getting closer to the monitor/tv, I am using a wheelstand pro and no desk, not the best installation and I am not really interested in buying new furnitures. So now I am kind of accepting input lag as a necessary evil (why can you only find info from 2 years ago or for US models?) but hoping to get decent (lack of) motion blur...

I totally understand budget limitations, but just to be clear, the Philips mentioned above is not a TV but a 40" 4K monitor. I hope you find a setup that works for you!

I heard Sony KDL-40W600B is a great tv for gaming with low inputlag and around your budget. I have the higher end KDL-55W900A wich i really like, 19ms inputlag wich is really good for tv but almost completely sold out and a bit above your budget. Anyway i suggest having a look at this site as it has a independent tested inputlag database.
