'73 Toyota Celica Data Replacement - The Japanese Mustang

My handle is OldRebel because I'm kind of old (63) and I've always been a rebel. I remember the first generation Celica very well. It was Toyota's idea of a Japanese car with a Mustang theme. It made a big splash in the marketplace at the time. So when I discovered a download on A******land for two versions of the '73 Celica I had to give it a go. The original model was apparently made as a drift car and is credited to an author named 'Tovey'. A secondary modder by the handle of 'de carrera'...

OldRebel updated '73 Toyota Celica Data Replacement with a new update entry:

GT Model Addition

Well, we always like more power right? This update adds a GT model based on the CS version that I like so much. The GT has 185bhp for some extra kick. Since the GT didn't previously exist you will need to create a new folder for it in your 'cars' section of Assetto Corsa. Name it toy_celica_gt. Next, copy all the contents of the folder named toy_celica_cs and paste them into your newly created toy_celica_gt folder. Now copy/paste the toy_celica_gt folder from this download over top of your...

Thanks for the updates OldRebel, I remember these cars fondly also. A friend of mine had one back when we were teenagers in the 70s and I always wanted him to drive whenever we hung out together.
I noticed that the Club model will not get above 76mph now. Is that purposeful? I'm the furthest thing from a knowledgeable car guy so I was just wondering...not complaining. Thanks again!

Hi Jody. Thanks for the comments. Re your comment on the club model. Are you saying that since I added the GT model as an update that the CS model has been affected somehow? I cannot think of how that could be as the upload remained the same as before other than the addition of the GT model. I would suggest copying the toy_celica_cs folder from my download again and repasting it over top of the toy_celica_cs folder that you already have in your cars folder in Assetto. If that doesn't work please tell me what final drive ratio you have selected and what track you are running on. Thanks for your input.

I apologize for not being clear. I also have to apologize for being so ignorant. I had noticed that the top speed was lower with the CS after swapping in your data as compared to the A******land version. I now realize the gear ratios are changeable through setups. All three models are fantastic and I appreciate your sharing your work! Sorry for the confusion.

Hey, no problem Jody. I'm glad you got it figured out. I was worried I had messed up a file for a short time there. Yes, you want to setup any car for particular tracks. Especially the final drive ratio which is often selectable on cars but not always. You should learn about that as it is very important for performance. Some cars even allow you to adjust individual transmission gear ratios which gives you even more control over a car's performance on different tracks. The Porknose powertrain file I have just uploaded to Race Department last night has fully adjustable transmission ratios.

Hi Crockett1970. Since you are the only one (that I know of) having trouble so far lets get back to basics. I would suggest just focusing on the installation of the CS and RS cars to start with. Once they are installed and working ok then lets deal with the GT. After creating your GT folder please copy all the contents of your CS folder and paste them into the empty GT folder. Then take the GT folder from this download and paste it over top of that GT folder you created. Overwrite as requested. Then try it and please let me know how you make out. Thank you.

LOL I know I feel like a noob, I know i am doing something stupid cause I have done this sort of update hunded times before.
I have loaded the two cars from - Toyota Celica Club Sport 1973 reworked by deCarrera (2in1) for AC v1.16.3
I then copied over your up-date into both Cars, then made the GT folder then copied the CS model over into the GT folder then copied over your GT update into the GT folder

I noticed that you don't mention assigning sound to the GT car. If you don't do that you could get an error code I think. I had even forgotten to mention it in my description of procedure in my last post. Also please make sure that the new folder is named exactly including case. A tip that many don't know is never to use upper case letters in car folder names. Also, please be sure that you are copying the files from the CS car into the new GT folder...not the RS car. That would be an easy mistake to make. I have downloaded my own files from this site, deleted my GT car and will re-do the conversion shortly and get back to you after testing. I suspect sound may be your issue though.

Cool thanks, I will have another crack at it but just to make sure - I copy the GT update over the updated CS files in the new GT folder correct?

Yes, that is fine. I don't think it would matter whether you overwrite the original CS folder or the updated one. The result should be the same.

Ok I got it going, you were right I didn't assign the sound and once I assigned the escort sound in CM it works fine with no conflict. Many thanks for your help Cheers :)

Thanks for your fun update to one of my favorite mods. For those still looking for the mod, I recently re-posted the link to my original vrsion on the GT Planet Assetto Corsa mods forum.
