9.9 GB of dedicated server?

I'm downloading the dedicated server Motorist, but got scared with the file size.

Can anyone tell me if this is it?
You are downloading only the dedicated, or the whole game again?
That's right Reiza?

I am not sure what that is all about. I simply use my Steam account on my server and made copies of my game to host 10 servers on 1 machine. I dont have the dedicated server tool installed at all. If you run the AMS Dedicated.exe it does it all from a normal game install.

I absolutely don't understand why this is needed.
The server shouldn't require the content, it should just know about the content and should be able to prove the integrity of client's content.
There's a basic design flaw in Reiza's dedicated server software.

What do you mean "a basic design flaw"? This is the same way the servers have always been since RF1, RF2, and SCE. The content we all use is the same content on the server install. It makes perfect sense to me, always has. Unless you mean there is some better way?

No idea if there is, but there should be since it's the server it should have another way to host files without having the "full files" let's say... if everything was "translated" to the server tool as basic txt files, or something like that, don't know how to explain :D

It's not a design flaw, it's like that in every other sim. "It should know about the content" equals to having the content on server, or how else would it know if a vehicle file has been tampered with?

Hmmm, i was 100% sure that good old dedicated servers didn't have all the content of the game but just downloaded Rust Server and that seems to use about as much as the game.

Weird, when did that change? :)

Knowing the AC servers content and comparing with Automobilista one .... the big difference is AC just needs one .acd file per car ( a kind of "zipped" content of the car physics and surely more ) and just one file for each track.

Now is the 1st one perfectly safe for cheats ? .... and moreover, impossible in AC to add AI to the running server.

Comparing the game content here with its dedicated tool content ... mainly the cars content is much reduced in the dedicated ( just 2 little files for each team skin ).

Anyway, as I remember ... Race07, GTR2, Rfactor ...and so on also needed the ( nearly ? ) whole game at the server side.

In all the games I know and has already used the dedicated server, none of them have the size or come close to that of Reiza.

It is totally unnecessary that, since the game is installed on the machine, and even if it is not installed, has no need to put the game content on the dedicated!

But anyway ...

Yep, all ISImotor based games require the full content on dedi, they compare against a number of vehicle files to make sure client has the same files as server. Quote from Renato:

Yes we´ll put together a dedi tool via Steam (freely available of course), though the size won´t be all that smaller as it requires most of the game files to work.
