I'm going to post here tonight to share a learning experience for others...hopefully.
I have been involved in the hobby of sim racing and sim flying for many, many years....ever since my first PC (a 386) back in 1993 I believe. Aces of the Pacific, Aces Over Europe, and racing sims I no longer remember the name of. Over all those years I have developed a huge respect for the community of hobbiests (sp?) out there and it never ceases to amaze me how much work that people will put into something and then give it away for free. I also have great respect for the sites that host these sim hobbys...like Race Department. For the huge part of all those years I have just been a 'taker'. I have downloaded a zillion gigabytes of airplanes, cars, tracks...you name it...for free. In the last couple of years I started to finally try to pay for the enjoyment I have received. Not only in paying for membership on a site such as this but also trying to contribute as well. I have learned over time to not be afraid of modifying computer files to come up with something different or fun. Something I thought was imaginative and worth doing and sometimes sharing. I really wish I had the talent to make things from scratch but I'm not that guy and I never pretend to be. I just share what I can do through imagination and ,from what I can tell, other people appreciated what my imagination brought forth. This post is not about trying to change the rules of this website. They are what they are and if you want to be a member here then you must play by those rules. I believe those rules are there for good reason. Unfortunately though it seems that those restrictions can put a damper on what the imagination can bring forth and that, I think, is a shame. I get it...I really do. Next thing you know there would be 454's in Ford Escorts and that would be ridiculous of course. I'm not trying to change things here. I just wanted to let you guys know I tried to participate in my own simple way, that's all. When it gets right down to it I am here to have fun. Hopefully there will be no ill will about this post. ----OldRebel (Ken Morter)
