AMS2: Now with so many more advertisements!

Well, many of my favorite tracks appear to have been loaded up with dozens and dozens of new advertisements for Extreme, Fanatec, etc.

Some may not mind, but to me these are like ice-picks into my eyes; obnoxious and immersion-breaking.

Is there no corner left on this earth that isn't a vehicle for marketing? Not happy at all, and now I have to reconsider which sim I'm playing. :(

Could it be that these are actually accurate advertisements? Fanatec has been quite aggressive in their real life marketing efforts on the tracks and cars recently. Especially if you watch a lot of GT racing.

Haha, I did expect that post to be controversial. :)

People would be happier, and the world would be a better place, if marketers didn't dominate every corner of our world. And while it's fair for "free to play" games to be ad-supported, I'd like my paid-for games to spare me the ads.

Yes, there are ads all around real race tracks, but rarely to sell products to the drivers as opposed to the audience. So when there's a bill-board strategically placed to be right in the driver's face as they approach the end of a straight, and it's for a sim-racing product, you know it's not there for color, it's there to demand your attention. That is immersion-breaking.

So no, if Reiza isn't satisfied with the money I've paid for the game and their premium tracks, and want more by shoving ads at me (after the fact through an update), I will invest more time and money in other games from companies that show a higher level of respect for their customers.

Now excuse me, there are some clouds outside that I have to go yell at!:mad::mad:

Have you played ACC? Not just billboards replacing RL advertising, they invent electronic advertising screens.

But to be annoyed with AMS2 is bizarre. Borderline troll in my mind. I would much rather have the (assumed money generating adverts) than fake brands.

P.S. Reiza games have always had Extreme adverts.

Thanks for the tip - I'll avoid that one.

Funny - I thought that was one of those fake ads, until I was tipped off that it was a paid ad when they multiplied like rabbits along with others that I recognized.

I've said often here that AMS2 is my favorite sim. I still think it's the best. But yeah, I really hate ads and shun outlets for them whenever possible. That's more and more difficult with every passing year. I'm sure my next refrigerator will have rotating ads displayed on it, too.

Now, back to yelling at clouds! ;)

You'll laugh (or not) but I used to get ads on my printer as a clickable banners on the printer display for calendars and other printer unrelated stuff until I blocked it from accessing the internet.

Considering those brands sponsor Reiza and only require a billboard banner, I think the price to pay is quite small. Were there more brands, at least we'd get to see more variety. Luckily on historic tracks we get to see fictional brands mimicking the real ones (Milbarrow, Faster's, etc) or the real track sponsors on modern tracks depending on the licensing deals. Also this seems something awfully minor to nitpick at to the point of considering playing something else and considering it's not the first time I see this post, I call troll.

PS: Wait until he hears about games with predatory ads playing in their menus. Or Smart TVs with ads.

IMO banners and other forms of brand advertising are immersion enhancing, but only if they're realistic or at least feasible and not annoyingly ugly like the ones in Raceroom.
When I see Reiza logos in Automobilista or rFactor 2 ads in rFactor 2 it's the equivalent of screaming "just a game, not real!" in my face.
The principle works for cars as well, which is why I'm scrounging the skins download category to to find as many real world or quality fantasy mod liveries as possible.

Luckily on historic tracks we get to see fictional brands mimicking the real ones (Milbarrow, Faster's, etc)
The Faster's one bothers me somewhat because the obvious punny nature of that fake brand just serves to draw attention to itself.
I'd rather see developers make brands up from scratch rather than mimic real world names or logos.

Still a road of development for AMS2, so anything that helps the development still works in our favor...

To be honest I've never noticed banners....probably end up crashing looking at banners now :D

The thing is quite a few sim racers are what we call in this day and age "fanboys" and I am what you call a "Thrustmaster fanboy" - so to see Fanatec advertising all over the AMS2 tracks and being overly plugged away here on Racedepartment I find it grossly offensive. I didn't go down without a fight in the Snes v Megadrive wars nor the noughties Playstation v Xbox wars and yes, it is time again to make my STAND! Any more Fanatec adverts and I'm going to delete my AMS2 install, and anymore of it on RD then I'm going to feck off to GT Planet for good. So there. Take that punks.:D

I suppose we are well into the in-game ads normalization phase. So much so that we are expected to submit quietly, or even defend our submission in public. Sigh.

I disagree with the "if it helps with their development" apologies. This is a paid-for game, and I thought that was exactly what I had been doing (supporting development) when I bought the game and premium tracks in the first place. I'm sure it's more complicated than that, but integrity is worth something, and I'd pay more for it.

I've bought four premium tracks, mostly for their historic variations (still waiting on two). Why? Because I thought at least those tracks might be spared "extreme" ads, etc. But Reiza had to put a logo of theirs even in those tracks. I can't not see it now.

Next step: ad servers bundled in with your game. Electronic video bill-boards that, after scanning your hardware, reviewing your FaceBook profile, determining what you just had to drink (because your smart fridge reported on you), etc., rotate through the marketing of targeted products. "Time to order more Fosters!" (Your fridge then dings to indicate that it did it for you.) "Update that POS wheelbase you are using to the new DD-9000 today! Brake at the end of this straight for easy one-brake ordering! ... Ding!"

And yes, my TV auto-updated itself a year or two after I bought it in order to serve ads to me, probably after spying on what I was watching (porn) (racing!).

I guess I understand if it is getting carried away..I never really noticed but if they are selling ad space in the game so long as they dont make me watch a commercial or something Im cool with it...The way I see it if Rieza makes enough money maybe we can all campaign and get them to make Racing Japan...for like 30 bucks next year....hmmmmmm hmmmmmm

well it would be you who is also cancelling him hehe

I sometimes think its a bit much but its true for all motorsport, its over-done with adverts.

For me though I do not like even sponsors on jerseys! lol, I try to overlook it [successfully] in motorsport.

I am thankful they do not put it on tracks.

the truth is unless it was on a car I would not know alpine, marlboro, etc. it works [ no i do not smoke I know of them] they do not put it on the road so we cannot resent it too much :) and they do that in rugby in the past too.
