Anyone else using "-vrnomirror"?

I use the command line option -vrnomirror so that when in VR I don't have any display on my desktop so that there is no wasted cpu/gpu displaying something I will never see. The downside to this is that there is no possibility to use the mouse whilst in game. Using a combination of Gaze and Fanatec Wheel joypad / buttons I can navigate through pretty much all aspects of the game(sim).

The one thing I have yet to be able to do is exit from the replays once I am in them. I can change everything within the replay module itself, just not exit. Even Gaze does not work.

Anyone else using -vrnomirror and managed to exit replay mode?

BTW, replays in VR mode are great, especially the track side cams. Being able to move your head to follow the car from left to right as it races past feels like being there :)

To be honest, the performance "impact" of displaying a mirror is so low that I don't even bother. You can test it in games that offer the ability to turn the mirror on/off while running. All your GPU is doing in most cases is sending a part of the image it has already rendered for your headset to the monitor. There is no extra rendering work.

So for me, the inconvenience of not being able to see the screen when I remove my headset to take a break, and the inability to use the mouse, is not worth the gain of 1-2 fps.

Its definitely a bigger difference than 1 or 2 fps for me though. Its the difference between getting incessant reprojection in wet races throughout a lap, versus it being rare. I've got proficient with navigating just with my buttons and wheel joypad, but that replay eject eludes me. The display mirror in this game is different to some other games where it is in fact just the left/right eye view on the screen. Move the HMD around and see the view on screen move as well. In this case, its a completely different viewport.

EDIT: I think I am wrong about the different Viewport. Still, it seems to make a difference in my performance so I still have the mirror display disabled.

Out of curiosity, don’t you have the same issue with simply resuming driving after pausing the game? There’s an assignable control for the pause function but the only way to resume appears to be clicking the GUI resume button with a mouse.

This is a UI issue that quite frankly greatly irritates me. If there’s a button/key for “going in” to some feature or function then the same button or at least the same category of control should be used to “go out” of that feature/function. It never occurred to me that my personal irritation could be a genuine problem for VR users.

I must confess, my keyboard is very near and I can find the "esc" key. Plus, my F1 Wheel joystick works nicely in the menus. I can navigate to "Resume" with my wheel joypad and then "select" it with another button.

Gear Up/Down navigates upper level options and joystick the lower levels. I sometimes have to navigate off the selected "option/button" and back on in order for it to recognise the selected "button". Its kind of become second nature now, but yes, the UI in VR needs attention, particularly the seemingly broken Gaze functionality.

Navigation between some buttons is inconsistent also as sometimes up/down works to select whilst other times its left/right. I used to have to resort to the "right shift" key too, especially when in the livery selection of a quick race, but I found a button on my Fanatec F1 that seems to do the same thing. It needs work for sure, but I am OK with it being a lower priority for the moment. Just currently have no way to exit replays (at all).

Wow. Do I feel stupid. For some reason it just never registered with my brain to try and navigate the pause screen menu with anything other than the mouse. Simply hitting the enter key on the keyboard while the resume button is highlighted is all that needs to be done to un-pause. I’m just baffled on how I managed to overlook that.

If you get stuck in the menu, move the mouse to reset the Gaze. Move the mouse to make the Gaze disappear, and move the joypad directional key to make the Gaze reappear. Gaze the target and run it. It should be noted that you can only execute the target you initially gazed at. In your case is the eject icon on the top right. If it doesn't work, please start over from the beginning. I am using the manual select. This is just one example, and I'm sure there are other ways to do it.

Hey, thanks a lot. This worked! :)
