Assetto Corsa: Audi License

Our first hint of an upcoming license has been revealed with this picture from Marco Massarutto's Facebook page.

Thanks to this, one can make an educated guess that the Audi R8 GT3 will be one of the first cars to be produced from the Italian developers, as It recieved the most number of votes out of all the Audi cars to choose from in their survey conducted late last year, with the Audi brand receiving the most number of votes overall.

EA are complete bastards who must liquidate ASAP in my humble opinion... Porsche could do so much better than to allow EA of all companies have that license.
It's actually a really smart move by Porsche.
More people know about and play Need For Speed, than all of the actual sims combined.

Arcade racers sell to the majority of people. Thus, Porsche will make several times the amount of money from EA than they would if Kunos had the rights to them.

For us Sim Racers, it sucks. Granted. But, for them, it's the best option, income wise.
But times are changing, and soon I bet they'll give their rights to something like Gran Turismo, or Forza, as they're becoming more popular than NFS, and they're both just as easy to pickup and play.
 
Porsches can easily be added by decent modding teams. It's not beyond the wit of man to make good modded content that matches that made by AC... it might just take time for the numbers to be dug out.

But Porsche of all brands are pretty well documented for all the stuff like kinematics for suspension and so on. And all the other more arbitrary values in there, well they can be tuned just as well as anyone else if they have an eye on realism.


So I can see some good Porsches coming to AC... assuming the modellers/physics guys are good :)

Audi R8 LMS officially confirmed.

"We have had a great racing weekend at Vallelunga circuit: having our R&D Studio permanently inside a racing track we have the chance to cooperate constantly with motorsport. Last weekend we have received the new Fanatec CSW V2, featuring the amazing Porsche 918 wheel rim: we have had the chance to meet the team AUDI Sport Italia, all its personnel has been very kind and cooperative, despite of the pressure and the amount of tasks to complete during the whole race weekend. Some of the Audi guys have paid a visit at our office trying the latest additions to the development build, giving us their feedback, and it has been great to know that some of them already use Assetto Corsa: thanks to their support we'll be able to reproduce the amazing AUDI R8 LMS at our best. We wish also to thank the photographer Mauro Salucci for his great support, he's a talented photographer and he catched the spirit and atmosphere of this crazy weekend, as you can see in his exclusive gallery."

I disagree it was a smart move by Porsche to give exclusivity to EA. I say this from a business perspective-- not as a sim racing fan.

They made a bit more money from EA up front but then have been excluded from most of the biggest titles in racing games for many years. This, to a degree, obscures the brand from the immediate aspirations of many young, emerging car enthusiast racing game players as a result. And some of these people grow up to be able to afford a high end sports car.

NFS titles have sold many copies over time but have faded in popularity. Games like Gran Turismo also sell hugely. How does Porsche benefit from not being in GT,Forza or PC titles? By getting some extra money from EA 10+ years ago? No. EA still would have given them money and still would have put Porsche in their games one way or the other. Porsche does very, very well from selling cars-- they don't substantively add to their margins through videogame licensing. And car enthusiasts are more focused on the sim or console-sim space than on arcade titles anyway. It was a short-sighted decision from a licensing professional many years ago-- someone who failed to see the bigger, long term picture in supporting the brand. The licensing people feel very good about making an extra million dollars (a hypothetical figure). In their small part of the business that is a big deal. But long term, and when integrated in Porsche's total revenues, it is small potatos. Particularly if it doesn't strategically support the brand.
