Assigning default car setup with track/car

Is there a way to have my setup load with a track/car combination instead of the ambiguous "default". Most games allow you a tick mark or some other way to designate which setup to load by default. Too many times I start a race and forget to load my custom set up and of course my car is not competitive on this "default".

This can be done, though not within the game, but I've forgotten how (seeking this long lost data led me to this thread). All I recall is you must find your setup in the game folders, copy it and rename to a specific filename/extension (based on the car), then copy that to another folder overwriting the default file.

Hopefully someone here remembers the procedure.
