ATS mouse/gamepad controls

Hi,
I'd like to run ATS on a MAC ( for my daughter to use). No wheel there. I had a disappointing try running ETS with a PS3 controller ( very hard to drive ) on the Mac. Wondering if anyone has used mouse control with success or would recommend a wired Xbox controller?
