Black screen mid race

I've had this once before when on a srs race that was something to do with joining through the app but tonight I've had this a few times playing single player

Anybody else had this?

I have asked similar things, it is always problematic getting help, mainly due to the complexity of it all.
Most of us have had these types of problem, rarely finding the exact answer, usually forgetting how it was fixed, because of the multiple things we try; after all once the problem goes that is all we are really concerned about.
Check for background activity, check that all the power setting are on max, update GPU graphics drivers, there are logs running for windows, information can be found on YouTube, you may get a useful clue or possibly so much information that it all get out of hand.
Could be faulty ram, psu, graphics card, win 10 update, the list goes on, it would be great if there was a well trodden path that we all instinctively followed naturally that was instantly relatable to everyone, finding a real useful clue easily.

Sorry that this has ended up as my personal rant....

Hey mate! (didn't forget the pm but really stressed out currently, sorry! Still wanting to quickly chime in and try to help here)

Black screen means what exactly? To help you we need the whole procedure of what's happening :)
So you go on the track, drive around and then black screen.
Can you alt+tab out of the game and the desktop is fine or is your desktop black too?
Can you still get into Taskmanager via ctrl +alt +delete or do you have to do a forced restart of the pc via the power button?
Do you still have sound? If yes, is it continuing like the game is still running normally but you just don't see anything?
Also are you using a force feedback wheel? If yes: is the ffb still there? Is it frozen or do you feel hitting stuff because the game is still running in the background?

Once we know all this we can get closer to the problem!

Hi Rasmus
it doesnt always happen at the same time but basically its like the power saving shuts down the screen so it goes off for a second and then comes back game still running on. I've changed the setting in windows 10 to turn screen off never but it still occured.

I recorded it using obs but the screen didnt go off on the recording

I'm going to play with a few options and see if I can force it to happen

When I first updated to sol 1.4 it used to do this on every race I changed in csp graphic adjustments post processing anti aliasing from disabled (which Peter recommends) to fx3.11 nvidia 2015 which seemed to fix it. I think this is the 1st time I've been on trento since

Ah okay so everything is running fine after the black screen so it's not your hardware.
If CPU or memory crash, they crash hard! If the gpu crashes, you'll mostly get an error message in windows and the game won't respond anymore.

A friend of mine had a similar issue with the screen going off when he used a hdmi to vga adapter for his old little secondary monitor.
Do you use a second monitor or an adapter on the monitor cables?

Go into device manager, and make sure the power settings for all the usb settings are:- untick the bit were it says allow computer to turn off usb for power saving , or something like that.
You never know may be as simple as that, probably not. :(
I think there are also other equivalents, other things in device managers. Win 10 generally assumes you have a battery powered lap top.

Thanks Kek no luck with that

I have my 1 pc connected via displayport and displayport selected on monitor I also have another pc connected via hdmi
Pull out the second pc from the monitor and check if it goes black again. It might be some issue with the monitor getting another signal (even if the pc isn't connected on the other end of the cable).
Hdmi (and displayport) have this annoying "digital handshake", which can do strange things sometimes...

This is the cable https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DFDGNKQ I still had it connected to my other pc from when I used that for AC, strange that it only recently started happening
Cable looks good. I think the problem is the connected pc at the other end of the hdmi cable.
Can it send any signal?
Or is it really shut off?
Hdmi is a bitch but I could imagine that the other pc might give a little input to the monitor which causes the black screen issue.

Does the problem frequency change based on your screen resolution at all?

I'm running the game through CM via displayport, but I recently started getting black screens, too. The problem worsened and now the game just flickers constantly and eventually goes to all black. I resolved the issue by decreasing the resolution (I usually play in 4K@60). Playing at 1080p gives me zero issues. I think the cable might be giving me problems, so I'm going to try a different DP 1.2 tonight to see if it fixes it.

The problem doesn't occur in any other game/program. I'm running a GTX 1080Ti with the latest drivers.

Had a DP cable did exactly the same, it was a good quality one, 2 meters long, may
have Aggravated the situation.
Replaced it with a reasonable quality 1.5 meter DP cable.
Problem disappeared.
