Brake / Engine wear?

I'm trying to learn rf2 and there's one thing that I obviously fail to get: I can't see the current state of engine and brakes. Using "classic" GUI, 911 RSR und LM24 (both S397 content). Whatever I do, I can't kill the engine. Which is bad for realism Any option I don't see? Thanks guys!
