Can I play 1v1 over the internet and chat the entire time?

Total noob question here. Even though I sim race, I’m not a “gamer” (in regards to playing other types of titles) and actually have never raced other people on the internet (I just race against AI).

My kids live in another state, and right now they are at the age where they love Minecraft. I discovered a great way to interact with them - we FaceTime each other and then play Minecraft online together - we can play while talking the entire time, and I can actually see them as well.

Would this be possible with sim racing? Could it just be me and them on a track (no other players), and make it so we can talk the whole time? What are the specifics of making this work?

The easiest way I could think of would be to set up a private/passworded server for online racing. Then use either Discord or teamspeak and chat through that.
Obviously the server thing will vary from sim to sim, but thats the general principle for any of them really.

gtxgaming do the cheapest servers. and discord works great for chatting.
