Can't seem to change email address in my profile

When I go into contact details in my profile and input a new email address in the first line, then confirm my password, I get a "your changes have been saved" message but the old information, which is my name, still shows up as my email address.

Hi Tim, how did you get on with this? I see there was a change of email address on your account. If you're still having problems please drop me a PM with the details you wish to set on your account and I'll take care of it for you.

When I go into my contact details now, this is what it looks like:

...but for a split second I can see my gmail address flash up there where my name is. I have no idea if this is how it's supposed to work or not.

Just shows my email address when I do it. What browser and Operating system are you using?

W7 and Google Chrome.
