Case modification?

So my Palit GTX 1070 Game Rock arrived today.... I got back from work, eager to get home and install it in my case and woah! It's a little too large... I'm talking less than a centimeter or so for the cooling cover to fit. But it also makes it a little hard to line up with the slot as no room to maneuver the card into place.

I have empty drive slots that are in the way but they are also part of the case structure.

Has anyone here ever needed to modify their case to fit a larger GPU before and if so, do you have any tips or advice?

Bigger case or out with the Dremel

You can probably cut some of the drive bays out (difficult to know without seeing the case) and it still should hold together but an oversized card in a small case will disturb the efficient airflow inside so I'd suggest getting bigger case.

Post some pics. My fractal r5 can remove all the hdd cages inside so plenty of space,why i love it so much.

Thanks guys, I've decided to go with a larger more modular case which should be with me in a few days.
I'll even see if I can post some pics up of the current case, and then as I'm performing the switcharoo to the new case.

I've gone with a white Tecware Alpha. They're a Philippines based company, (so not too far from my current location), and consist of PC gaming enthusiasts so thought I'd give them a go.
(Plus, they're not as well known as some of the big players and are a little more modest in their pricing...)

We'll see how it looks when it arrives.

No worries. That's a large case and looks like it would have been good. Only problem for me is, I am based in Malaysia, and they seem to sell everything else that Zalman produce apart from their cases. That would mean an import which would bump the price up considerably.

I made quite a few mods to my Antec 300 case to allow videocards up to one foot... as well as rear CPU access to custom fan mounts..
Sent pix to Antec and a few months later every 300 had that CPU mod.
First get a drill and pop-rivet set.
That'll allow you to take the harddrive caddy out to do the cutting required.
It's just easier on the bench.

That's the same as my case there, Terry. Looks like you know what you're doing.
Not sure I have a pop-rivet set. What does it look like?

@alex...if you have a Dremel tool with a flex extension and some good cutting wheels, the mods can be done without disassembly.
It's just easier without having to work in a confining space.
I blended all the sharp edges and used a bit of railroad tie on the edges.
The image below is a rivet gun.
You can also use screws to re-secure the caddy but rivets are 'cleaner'.
