CSW V2 settings

Mark Sheepwash

To finish first, first you have to turn up......
All just got hold of GTR2 for the first time - can anyone recommend some good settings for the Fanatec CSW V2 please Can't get the feeling quite right. Both in game and on the wheel would be good. One setting I'm not sure what you're supposed to select in game is the FF settings under basic controller or specialised controller?

Thanks in advance

Hopefully someone can chip in on the specifics for the CSW V2 (I use a G25).

Here is a quick guide to GTR2 FFB

In-game menu CONTROLS - FORCE

GTR2 is over 10 years old and naturally its FFB reflects this. Though it has a G25 FFB setting it actually came out before the G25 was publicly available. Naturally there are no pre-sets for more recent wheels. Opting for the G25 may be the best option but you may well then need to un-check the Reverse Effects box if your wheel isn't a Logitech.

Force feedback effects
OFF - No FFB
LOW - pure FFB no added effects
MED - adds extra vibration when driving over a curb.
HIGH - adds curb vibration and vibration when you brake
FULL - adds curb vibration, brake vibration and engine vibration

My preference is for LOW (and the G25 setting defaults to this) but you may feel differently. Provided the curb saw teeth are modelled in 3D (as they are in the Simbin tracks) you can feel the curb vibration and of course smooth curbs will feel smooth. Some like the extra vibration MED setting gives but you will feel the vibration on smooth curbs too.

Delving into the plr file [ Controls ] section

GTR2s FFB is highly customisable in the plr file. Its standard FFB dates from the time when the philosophy in terms of FFB was to provide the player with feedback on where you were in relation to the grip limit of both front and rear wheels, as well as feeling bumps etc. The trend since GTR2 came out has been towards trying to simulate just the steering forces at the ends of the steering arms. If you want to do this there are two lines in the plr file you can play with

FFB steer force grip weight="X.XXXXX" // Range 0.0 to 1.0, recommended: 0.4 to 0.9. How much weight is given to tire grip when calculating steering force. Suggest set between 0.3 and 0.5 so steering doesn't go excessively light at the limit.
FFB steer force grip factor="X.XXXXX" // Range 0.0 to 1.0, recommended: 0.2 to 0.6. How much of a factor the front wheel grip is on the steering weight. Suggest set to 1.00000 so FFB only relates to the front wheels

Also bear in mind the FFB frequency output is locked to the Fps.
For me GTR2 FFB gets better at +100 fps
I normally lock the fps @ 180 but will not clam it feels much better than @120.
But I can easy hold 180 fps in both 4K and with VR headset.
