Custom liveries: Newbie question

Hi , maybe a stupid question but when I donwload the custom liveries I only need to drag and drop the file sin the rootfile of ASM2. But what happens when you download files which are used with the same original car? Do they just overwrite them which means I will need to overwrite them when I need them or is there a way that I can put them all in place and select them in the game? Don't want to try it as I'm a newbie and don't want to mess up the game :)

The downloads usually include an xml file which has the details of the overwrites, and which models will be overwritten. You can have as many folders of skins for the models as you like, but the xml file will determine which skins are being used. Most cars only have a limited number of liveries available to overwrite, so the xml file is important to understand if you want to mix & match various skins from different modders. If you want to return to the original skins just rename the xml file.

Firing off a related drive-by query here: Can you just increment the skin ID# within a given vehicle to increase the number of livery "slots"?

Last week I was just unpacking/"installing" some AMS2 custom liveries for the first time and while unpacking skins for the Merc CLK GT1 I noticed that the first pack was 59,60,61,62 and the second pack was 59,60 (or some such).

So it appears like I could just add a couple skins from a different livery pack for the Merc CLK GT1 if I just renumbered the two additional starting at 63. However, if the other vehicles already own skin slot numbers 1-58,63-[xx] then I suppose slot availability is locked up without a whole lot of hassle.

In game, when choosing a skin, you will see how many cars are available. If there is room for another custom skin, then you just need to add it to the xml file with the corresponding model # you wish to overwrite. So, if ,model #63 is a default skin, then yes you can overwrite that number. There is a way to enable the display of the model numbers in the livery menu instead of the car name or #. Can't remember how, but it is doable.
