Custom liveries

Why is there this secrecy about custom skins in ACC, saying they don't work and all, yet the skins in the RaceDepartment download section work fine ingame? If you search this forum for livery there's a ton of threads with templates and how-to's locked and deleted, why?

I think this way of making custom skins is still unofficial. They have used it in the SRO events and somehow this has leaked out. I don't know if they will make this official or not in the future, though, but I don't see why not. This would be a good solution for private leagues.

Could it be NDA related? Getting these skins to work isn't really much more than copying an image to a specific folder. It's very awkward to be so secretive and shutting down anyone talking about it. I'm gonna test the ones from the downloads later and let you know if they work in multiplayer .

I might be wrong, but the developers might want to have some control over 'fully custom' liveries for the future and be able to censor any dodgy liveries as the popularity of e-sports is pushed further into the mainstream and ACC continues to grow? On the other hand hasn't it been confirmed that they will expand on the basic editor we do have at the moment anyway?

Personally, I think this will happen when 1.4 arrives, but at the moment I haven't got time to be in 'awe' of an OTT livery like you get in Forza as the racing in ACC is to intense, if your looking at liveries then you cant be that quick? ;)

They only work for people who also has the same skin installed, exactly like it worked in AC.

I received word that the ACC developer is actively blocking content related to custom liveries, so it seems there is some sort of NDA or copyright involved. Let's just leave it at that and patiently wait for the official livery editor that's rumored to be coming. Meanwhile this guy has made a decent guide to get you on the way regardless:

I can see Kunos reason to a degree to avoid any too inappropriate liveries but at the same time it limit's livery creativity. I love livery making which is half the fun but even if they allow more livery options and get onto a few manufacturers (mostly Lexus and McLaren) bums to allow some for variety in livery making.
