Delage 2LCV 1923 - The first Grand Prix V12

View attachment 461005

Number five of the 1923 Tours cars, only one more to go. Another one that has very little technical information available so expect lots of guessing, both educated and uneducated.

It was given a whacking great airplane engine after it's short Grand Prix career and still survives today as the Bequet Delage, which was handy for finding views of parts I couldn't see in the original photos from Tours - although apart from the obvious difference with the...

PREQUEL NOTE: You can just install and run Content Manager and Shader Patch if the stuff below seems a bit like too much mucking about.
-----
Just a note that I added in the code for the upcoming rain effects in Shader Patch and I vaguely remember reading somewhere that that can cause a crash if you don't have it installed. If you're able to unpack the data then changing the start of car.ini from

[HEADER]
VERSION=extended-2 ; version number

[_EXTENSION] RAIN_DEV=1

to just:

[HEADER]
VERSION=2 ; version number

should remove that problem.

This is all a bit 'err....I think' because I don't have the rain effects version myself, I just looked up how to do it. I did test it with vanilla AC but I think (err...again) that just having Shader Patch installed should make it work ok with vanilla AC.

Sorry do not follow. Have CTD with runtime error acp64.
Where would I find the car.ini, it is not in the carr folder for the car.
Thanks
Ivan

It's inside the data.acd file but if you use Content Manager you can unpack that file to get to the individual files inside, click 'Unpack data' and it should put a folder called 'data' inside the car folder, once you have that delete the data.acd file because it can override what's in the data folder:

I'd love to see the airplane engine-swapped version of this car as an alternative upgrade package. I know it'd likely be *way* overpowered compared to your other Tours grand prix cars but it'll be a fun novelty.

I would like to do it, and add the Monza variant of the FIAT 805 as well. Shouldn't be too much work for the physics but the Bequet Delage is quite different visually.

Because I've done 5 out of the 6 Tours cars I really want to finish the set now so the Rolland-Pilain is the next thing I want to work on, after a little break to refresh my enthusiasm a bit.

Installing the Shader Patch also solves this issue! After a few laps, I just adore these 1920's cars. Just fantastic, 11/10 work.

Excellent. Not keen on telling people how to enjoy their game but I thought pretty much everyone used CM and SP these days. It adds so much and the RainFX stuff looks like it'll add even more.

Also, thanks to Glenn652 who first explained to me how the rain stuff works.

Hi Cheever,
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I do not have an "Unpack" only "Pack" option in CM on that screen !
Maybe I have different version of CM .
Have some nice pictures from Monterey Historics 2018 (Delage, Tabot Lago, Hall & Scott , Bugattis etc.some sounds in mini videos. I did run my car there (Austin Healey 100-6 BN6.
Your cars sound and look the part,
Thanks, bear with me I am 70.
Cheers,
Ivan

Some features of CM are only available if you donate for the full version, 'Unpack' might be one of them. I think Ilja still accepts a donation of 'whatever you can afford' so if money's not too tight it's worth making one for the full version.

Love to see those pic and vids if you've got a Facebook page or YouTube channel, or post a few in here if you want.

Hi , figured out the Delage. The Napier is resisting.
Has different lines in 'Header" to begin with.
Version=extended-2 ??? Despite editing it reverts back to same.
Will try to post in here. Off to Easter walk (Pacific Time), see You later !
Cheers,
Ivan

You can post a link to Dropbox downloads, or you might want to try somewhere like Imgur they're pretty good as a host for photos. Not sure about the Napier, I only know the basics of the RainFX stuff. The only thing I can think of is to make sure you delete the data.acd file once you've got the data folder unpacked as it can over-ride the data folder if it's still there.

Just for anyone that's interested, this is the video that I got the main exhaust sample from. It's a fairly rare example of a well made vintage YouTube video, no wind noise, no background sounds, no terrible music, just the almost pornographic sound of the engine and exhaust and some great shots of the suspension under load:

10/10 i hope to see the monza fiat and i think there is a v16 delage after the designer was fired? But this car is so great thank you i hope to see the miller. ( btw thank you for adding American skins to the cars it makes me feel good lol)

Absolutely loving the way this one drives. Are there any plans to add a few more 'numbered/race' skins? I always feel like I am asking for more, my apologies.

Happy to hear you are going to do the Rolland-Pilain to complete the French GP entrants. If we could just get a few more Donington quality inter-war tracks I would never use any other cars :)

also thank you for naming the skins in honor of some of the heroes we have lost this year i think Murray and William would have loved it

I thought it would be a nice memorial, just to remember their names. Spent many a Sunday afternoon in the 80s listening to Murray and the late James Hunt commentating on Piquet and Mansell battling it out and Senna and Prost a few years later. I only knew Will through his videos but his death just seemed so tragic and untimely.

I was just thinking I should try to add more national colours, the Delage is a bit awkward with numbers because their position on the UV Map is a bit tricky but I'll try to add more colours at least.

Have a go with THL's Rennbahn 1928, it's great fun. GPLaps on YouTube made a AI race video with the Tours cars and his own AI line on THL's track and it really felt like watching the old oval races from the 20s and 30s. Fat Alfie's tracks always fit well with these cars too.
