Do you ever race online?

I voted yes however..I run a server for rookies which does have a minimum SA rating in ACC but no top level so you still get very good racers in but it's not evenly matched so I would like to see better matching for racers to bring down some of the anxiousness of starting out online racing without upsetting too many... or more series with observers to issue drive throughs etc

No, because I suck lol

Hey man that doesn't matter. You don't have to be fast to race. Finding a good bunch of guys with similar ability is what it's about. Every race will have fast drivers and slower drivers.

Have you ever tried any of RD's racing clubs? I've just taken over the AMS2 Club on Tuesday nights, might be worth coming along and giving it a go?

I have raced online but not anymore. I'm slower than sludge, everyone else seems to get faster and over the years I've just gotten slower. I enjoy slipping into a practice session when no one or just a few are on but it just proves to me again how slow I am. Being slow doesn't stop me from driving though!

Yes...casually as unable to make a commitment to league racing. I only ever race on-line in ACC as the SA rating does an OK job of giving a reasonable standard in the higher ranked servers. My experience in other sims has been pretty poor....

my biggest gripe about public servers is not the poor driving or deliberate wrecking...but all the **** that's spoken in the chat....the levels of racism, homophobia and general abuse is appalling at times and game creators should be far more accountable for policing this and taking appropriate action.

Also happy to race against AI, hot lap or just casually drive...only thing that doesn't do it for me is career modes

I've done a couple of the AC racing club events but I was generally a 3-5 secs off the pace per lap and lacked consitency. That meant I lost the pack early on and so couldn't learn from them, and when they come around to lap me, I was very nervous about accidently ruining someones evening by doing something unobvious to them (wrong racing line, braking to early, losing it in a corner, etc...)

I do both. Ai racing is convenient because you can start anytime you want and can choose the track/car combo. If you crash you can restart in a few sec ;) If only the ai would get better in some games. Raceroom has the best and I hope others will follow suit.

but online is fun too as humans drive more realistic and unpredictable. The nerves are also much more a factor. And a crash really hurts because you can forget about a good result and not restart as in a single player game.

I try to race online whenever I can despite work and family getting in the way of my hobby, although one tip I would give to anyone starting online simracing is get AC for PC as soon as you can and content manager and subscribe to SRS and world sim series trust me is probably the best way to dipping your toes into simracing, seriously is almost unbelievable how good AC has become.

I participate, but very rarely, firstly due to lack of time, and secondly, because of uninteresting combinations of auto / track online. I don't like gt3 cars, I don't like modern f1 cars, and most of the online races are on them.

Looking to get back into it after years out, just trying to catch up on what's happening and what sims are popular just now.

Just finished testing my wheel, pedals etc after they've been in the loft so long and we're good to go.

I try to race online every week with the AC Club. I'm only available on Sunday due to being in the US but I can't complain about Sunday GT3. Good group of lads in that club that have taught me quite a bit and I really look forward to our races. Bathurst this week...come join if you've got the time! :D

I spent most of my formative sim racing years playing Gran Turismo and then "upgrading" to the likes of GTR and rFactor 1. Spent a lot of time hotlapping with some AI racing. Never really developed proper racecraft with other vehicles (early sim AI basically didn't act like you existed and it was frequently simpler to just boot them around), so never gained enough confidence to go toe-to-toe with real people for fear of just kinda being in the way.

I am just looking to start now and trying to figure out where to go. I have always just used and console in the past and did not have great luck with the random people I was matched up with who were often not taking it seriously. I am looking to find a regular group to race with now that I have a gaming computer. I just joined iracing and got a few other games. Any recommendations for a new guy just looking to get started? I'm sure not the fastest but I'm also not a wrecker and I won't be using anyone as a bumper in the final turn.

Regular group you will definitely find here-and helpful too : https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/bmw-m1-watkins-glen-thu-03-dec-2020.193803/#post-3298575
