A good friend of mine asked if could create a British Ferrari themed helmet with black gloves and thought I should share it with you guys.

do the files just go in whichever car skin folder you want to use these elements?

That's correct. You must just make sure that you delete the skin file in the skins folder if one is present. This is not the skin.dds file. It looks like a driver file labeled skin. This is used to allocate textures from the texture folder in the game if no helmets, gloves, driver suite etc. are present in the skins folder.
