Filling holes in terrain?

In BTB, the most I can get a Terrain surface to have is a length of 99. This often leaves holes in the middle section of tracks.
Is there any other way to fill these holes, ie. make a surface for the entire infield of the track than pulling the edges? Pulling the edges to create new terrain surfaces works, but it's not very elegant and doesn't look at all good.

(I'm a bit of a noob, so sorry if this question is stupid!)

You can click and drag around a several nodes and then use Pull the Edges (by holding down Shift) and the 'Reduce' value will simplify things. If you pull the resulting edges, they'll be reduced again.

You can also select multiple nodes, right click (+ hold in 3d view) and select Fill Holes, but the result isn't always good (e.g. lots of thin triangles). You can get good results by limiting how many nodes are in the selection.
