First attempt at my own wheel ....and its been fun.

Steve Bird

Come On Williams!
Bought the wheel rim off eBay, the basic Pro-Race 2, without enclosure and designed or redesigned some bits available on Thingiverse and printed the bits on my 3dprinter, apart from the quick release of course. Just waiting for the aviation plug to add a disconnect on the back panel with a coiled USB connection

Great fun.

Has anybody else done something similar?

For those that are asking what Vogel is it's my surname in German :)

Nice work. You've managed to keep the wiring very tidy with the heat shrink tubing and the board being hidden away. I like the button placement you've gone for as well. Is it for an DD wheel? How well do you recon that central cone part that the QR attaches to will hold up under stress?
I built my own wheel last year from the OMP 310 Alu GT wheel. I don't have a 3D printer though so had to get a bit creative with the back part to hide anything away but I managed it with just some carbon fiber sheets and carefully placed spacers.

Hi MJH78,

Its built for my Thrustmaster T300. I bought a quick release coupling off ebay and used an adapter off Thingiverse to fit it to my wheel. The control board is built in to the RPM dash which had 20 pins for switches (2 for switches and 3 for Rotary encoders) which negated the need for any external software (Like SimHub) apart form the simple one provided by the dash maker. The central core if built with 1.2 cm wall thickness using a honeycomb infill so I expect there to be no issues with strength. I will report back if I have any issues.
