Formula E: Simona de Silvestro, Sakon Yamamoto in for London ePrix

Indycar star Simona de Silvestro and former F1 racer Sakon Yamamoto will race in Formula E’s season-ending London ePrix races next weekend.

The Swiss already drives for Andretti Autosport in Indycar and moves to their Formula E outfit to replace Justin Wilson in yet another driver change for the American squad.

Wilson scored a point on his Formula E debut in the last race in Moscow but the #28 seat has now been shared with six different drivers over this season, de Silvestro being the latest. She joins Frenchman Jean-Éric Vergne at the team.

Meanwhile Yamamoto, who hasn’t been involved with F1 since 2011, subs for Buenos Aires ePrix winner António Félix da Costa at Amlin Aguri. The Portuguese driver’s DTM commitments clash with the London date, hence the switch. The 32 year-old Japanese will partner Salvador Duran as the team sits just behind Andretti in the standings.

Both drivers have tested the Spark-Renault spec car before; de Silvestro performed a demonstration run in Geneva earlier in the year, whereas Yamamoto did so in Miami.

The London ePrix is a unique double-header on the Formula E calendar, with races on both the Saturday and Sunday, meaning more chance for the pair to make an impact in their sole weekends racing in the series.

The London ePrix’s two races take place next weekend on 27th and 28th June.
