As seen on autosport.com - F1 News: New computer game deal for F1:

Formula One is to have its first official computer game in more than two years next season following the capture of a new official licencing deal with British gaming company Codemasters, autosport.com can reveal.
With Sony having published the most recent official F1 game last summer, based on the 2006 season and available only on PlayStation consoles, Codemasters' deal will see F1 return to a multiformat platform for the first time in many years.
The game is set to be available on all major home consoles, as well as handheld and PC gaming formats.
After weeks of discussion between Codemasters and Formula One Administration, it is anticipated that the company will produce the first game next year, based on the 2009 F1 season. This will be the first game that Lewis Hamilton will appear in.
Rod Cousens, chief executive officers of Codemasters, said: "Formula One is ambitious in expanding its reach with more circuits planned beyond recent additions in the Middle East and China. It is also ambitious in expanding its reach via technology.
"The digital communities that computer and video gaming creates will play a key role in further growing the F1 audience and connecting them globally.
"As a world-leading creator of driving games, this alliance with F1 is the jewel in Codemasters' racing crown and creates an undisputed segment champion."
Chris Deering, chairman of Codemasters, added: "Codemasters' success and recent innovations in the racing game space makes the company more than appropriately tuned for the challenge.
"The combination of F1's new momentum of expansion and Codemasters' contemporary technology and past experience is the breaking of a new dawn for the sport, on the track and on the HD game screen."
Codemasters Studios has already begun preparations for the major task of creating the new game, by strengthening their team with personnel from the now defunct Sega Racing Studio.
There are 350 people working on the project, which will be based on the EGO Engine that Codemasters has put to good use on the Colin McRae: DIRT and soon-to-be-released Race Driver: GRID titles.

"Just wanted to give you guys/gals on the forum a heads-up that we are going to be making an F1 announcement very soon, and that you should keep an eye on these forums and the internet gaming press over the coming few days.

We're aware that there has been a lot of speculation recently regarding the release dates and also the platforms for the upcoming F1 game, and this announcement should clear things up for you all."

Computer games manufacturer Codemasters has revealed details of its officially licensed multi-format Formula 1 game to AUTOSPORT.

F1 2009 will be released in the autumn for the Nintendo Wii and Sony PSP, while a higher-spec F1 2010, with HD graphics and a more sophisticated gaming mode will be launched next year for the Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and Windows.

The new game will be the first to feature world champion Lewis Hamilton, since the Briton had not reached grand prix level when F1's agreement with Sony came to an end in 2006.

F1 2009 will use all of this year's cars, teams and tracks - including the Singapore night race, the Valencia Marina Bay circuit and the new Abu Dhabi season finale. The game will also include KERS, slick tyres and the new aerodynamic regulations.

In-depth race simulators are rare on the Wii and the format does not lend itself easily to the concept, but Codemasters is convinced it can deliver promising 'new standards for immersion and authenticity' including a full season, individual arcade-style challenges and a multi-player format.

The PSP version will allow wireless multiplayer, while F1 2010 is expected to take full advantage of Xbox and PS3's thriving online gaming communities.

"Codemasters has a great heritage when it comes to racing games and their reputation is second to none," said F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. "We're working very closely together on the upcoming Formula 1 titles and are very impressed with what we have seen."

Formula 1 world championship leader Jenson Button added: "F1 computer games and circuit simulations can be invaluable for racing drivers so it's great news that our fans will also be able to experience the BGP 001 through this game."

this paragraph pretty much destroys any hope whatsoever of this being a sim... :loadofcrap:

This is for the Wii and PSP, remember? People over on the [ame="http://community.codemasters.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1014"]official forums[/ame] are blasting the game's graphics, etc, yet they all fail too see/remember that this is a Wii and PSP game (F1 2009). Next year (2010) we'll be getting it for the PC/PS3/360, it'll look great, and will be using the EGO engine which can handle physics quite well if you ask me.

mebbe... but i can't see them writing an entirely new game for the 360/ps3/windows version.... especially since arcade and sim are a million miles apart and it'd be suicidal to not have a common codebase for 5 different platforms... the 2010 will be an upgraded port of what they put out in 2009, imo... i guess we'll see... i'd be ecstatic to be proved wrong when it arrives.... :becky:

"The PSP and Wii versions of the game due for release later this year are being developed by an external studio. The next gen versions due for release next year are currently in developement at our internal racing studios."

CM:
"Hi all,

Following on from this mornings announcement, I've noticed quite a few questions on these forums regarding whether the next gen versions of the game being released in mid-2010 will be based on the 2009 or 2010 seasons.

I'm pleased to be able to confirm that after speaking to the dev team and raising your questions and concerns with them that the 2009 Wii & PSP versions of the game will be based on the 2009 season, and that the next-gen versions of the game coming in mid-2010 will be based on 2010 season data."

this now is a major change from the initial FAQ of "based on season 2009" but at least we now know that something must have changed.

This will be interesting, I hope they at least offer the 09 season as DLC for the next-gen version. 09 will be a great season, and an iconic one. I'd hate to miss out on games of the '07,'08 AND '09 seasons. F109 only on the Wii and PSP? Ouch.

This also measn they can't model 2010 cars until January at the earliest, so it will be around Spring/Summer before it's released. I sense a lot of CM forum flaming. At least CM had the heart to tell us :)
