Nico Rosberg remained in prime position to secure a strong result at his home Grand Prix after topping the timesheets throughout Friday's Free Practice sessions at the German Grand Prix.

Mercedes once again seem to be on fine fettle this weekend in Hockenheim, Rosberg taking the early advantage from his newly championship leading Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in both morning and afternoon sessions.

Monegasque driver and Ferrari junior Charles Leclerc enjoyed a solid run out for the Haas team in FP1, finishing the session just over 3 tenths of a second behind team leader Romain Grosjean in the sister Haas VF-16. Mercedes protégé Esteban Ocon enjoyed more seat time in the Renault car of Jolyon Palmer amidst growing rumours that the young Frenchman could be placed with the Manor squad before the end of the 2016 season.

It was another positive day for the struggling McLaren Honda team as both Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button claimed places in the top ten for both sessions.

In other news Jenson Button is back on track following his visit to hospital yesterday. It was believed a "foreign object" was lodged in his eye, subsequent treatment in hospital has washed out the object and Button is suffering no more than mild irritation due to a light scratch. The issue will not effect his weekend and he will be able to take part in Practice 3, Qualifying and the Grand Prix itself.
