Good car class for Bridgehampton...

Not very knowledgeable about race history. Been running the Ginetta G55 GT4 mod on Bridgehampton to learn the track, but would like to try my hand at what it was really like to drive this circuit back in the day. What would be a good car to try to get a feel for just how crazy you would have had to have been to drive it in real life?

EDIT: I decided to try the Lotus 49 and boy did I forget how much effort it took to drive this car. Took me back to my GPL days. Been driving GT3 cars so much, I forgot how much throttle\brake combo manipulation it takes to get these older cars around the track in one piece. While i'm a terrible driver in general, for some reason i've always been pretty good in these older types. Doesn't make much sense when I think about it, but I sure do enjoy having to mesh the proper brake and throttle pressure to tackle a high speed corner in the Lotus. Letting the back end slide a little and then catching it at just the right time always brings a smile to my face.

What cars are best for Bridgehampton? Any 50's, 60's, 70's or 80's cars. Bridgehampton opened in the late 50's. It had hosted Sports car racing, including Can Am, stock cars (NASCAR) several times in the mid 60's. Formula 5000 cars ran there. The Sorts Car Club of America (SCCA) ran all classes of sports cars, formula cars and sports racers there from the early sixties right up until it closed in the 90's. I ran there for many years in small sports cars, see the picture...….

Coming out of turn five (Echo Valley) into turn six in my Triumph Spitfire, 1976.

That's a great picture and really shows how good of a job he did on this track. I don't know how you drove this thing in real life. I've been running sprint races for the last few hours because I can't get away from this track right now and i'm scared just doing it on a computer. Real life had to have been a nightmare at full speed.

Thanks for the history lesson. I always like learning the history about some of these tracks that don't exist anymore. Now back for another race to see if I can actually finish one.

Got that track the other day and I'm absolutely in love with it. Very fast and visually interesting.

Been running a class I call "VGT-B" most of the time there, which is pretty much just the Ford GT40, Ferrari 330P and Porsche 908 plus a couple other mods.

I raced motorcycles there from 1970-1982 with the Association Of American Motorcycle Road Racers. We had classes for bikes from 125cc up to "unlimited". I rode 250cc GP Yamaha's for years and switched to 550, 750 and 1000 production based bikes later. There were four or five events there every year with sprint races and and on long weekends a Monday five hour endurance race. I use this track alla time, sim's are great but I can't see going around it IRL on anything but a motorcycle!

Do you have the GPL mod for Assetto Corsa ? It is a must have for fans of vintage F1.

No I don't. I just got the game less than a month ago so I am still in the infant stages of learning what is out there to download and try. Most of what I have now has come from watching Youtube videos about the best mods to try.

EDIT: Just tried to find it, but the mediashare link I found is dead. Is it known as the AC 1967 GPL mod and what is the most recent version?

Sign up to F1Classic forum. All of Bazza's mods are on there.

Just signed up. Now to try and find the mod. That's the problem with being so far behind the people who have been around since the start. I have to search through years of posts to find what i'm looking for. Thanks for the point in the right direction.
You don’t need to do that. It is one of the first posts (pinned) in one of the Assetto Corsa threads (either Cars or Mods).
