Grid starting positions

Having a problem with the starting positions. I recently turned off "qualifying" so that I go straight to a race. In my settings I have position 5 but my last race I was at position 1. When I had qualifying "on" I just used to skip to Next event (Race) and I was always in last position. Any help?

It's a bug, don't think there is a workaround at the moment other then using qualifying.

I set up a race with seven AI and me starting in eighth place. And that works - I start at the back of the grid.
