These challenges are getting bigger! Here's the fourth one, on Car games:


As before, these are split into Easy/Medium/Hard categories. Some categories might have more than one game...

I'll reveal the answer in a week or two (or as soon as they are guessed!).

One clue:

• Easy = readily available to buy still, or fairly well known in the past.
• Medium = maybe not available to buy (apart from eBay); a bit less known.
• Hard = good luck on guessing these!

Cars Easy 1: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss - Midnight GT - Primary Racer - a graphic demo of sorts by Rage, and one of the earliest street racing games on PC.

Cars Easy 2: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss - Midnight Outlaw Illegal Street Drag Nitro Edition - this is a bargain basement street drag racing game. Not a lot of fun.

Cars Easy 3: not guessed by anyone! MotorSport Revolution - available now on Steam, this claims to be a VR title, but it's horribly buggy.

Cars Easy 4: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss - S40 Racing - before Dice made Motorhead, they made this Volvo tie-in, using a couple of tracks that ended up in Motorhead.

Cars Easy 5: correctly guessed by @Mitashki - SimRaceWay - it's still available online, this screenshot shows an unusual mix of car and track that belies it's rFactor-engined heritage.

Cars Easy 6: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss - The Real Car Simulator R (Nissan Edition) - a Japanese title, there was also a Toyota edition that could be combined into it. It's quite like the original Gran Turismo (just with less cars, less tracks, and average graphics).

Cars Easy 7: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss - White Van Racer - a bargain basement title. Credit to them for trying something different though!

Cars Medium 1: not guessed by anyone! Arcade Race (would have accepted Arcade Race Crash, which was a modified version): another buy-online bargain racing game, it plays slickly, if a bit basic. It seems to have been re-released under other names too, but Arcade Race is the original!

Cars Medium 2: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss, @Nicolas Redman and @Rot Teufel - Ferrari Virtual Race - Synetic, who made the World Racing and Crash Time/Alarm für Cobra 11 titles, were contracted to make an official Ferrari racing game. This one pre-dated Kunos Simulazioni's Ferrari Virtual Academy. It was going to have extra downloadable cars, but was killed off by Ferrari.

Cars Medium 3: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss - Grand Touring - Empire made this game long ago, it uses the same engine as Ford Racing/Ford Racing 2001 (the original Ford Racing game).

Cars Medium 4: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss and @Taggy4485 - GT-R 400 - Kuju Entertainment used the Lotus Challenge engine in a couple of other games (the other being Crescent Suzuki Racing). This one focussed on GT cars in a reasonably fun arcade racing title.

Cars Medium 5: correctly guessed by @9kret9 - GT Racing 97 - quite an old DOS title, this one. Made by Blue Sphere, who also produced the French-only game Taxi 2 (based on the Luc Besson movie).

Cars Medium 6: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss and @NLC_Paule - Lotus Challenge - as can be seen here, the game also included Proton (who owned Lotus at the time).

Cars Medium 7: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss and @MinDer_K. - Turbo Cup - ancient DOS title featuring René Metge and his Porsche 944 Turbo. The PC version struggles with CGA 4-colour graphics.

Cars Hard 1: not guessed by anyone! Ferrari X-Challenge - way before Ferrari Virtual Academy came this game, where you can race around Fiorano and Mugello in an F430 Challenge. Rather basic though, and no longer widely available.

Cars Hard 2: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss - Speed Thief - it's easy to confuse this with the almost identical Midnight Racing, but this budget game has police cars, trying to reshape your car into a mess of broken polygons!

Cars Hard 3: not guessed by anyone! SpeedyZone - a very basic racing game, this was reskinned as Grand Prix Rally (which pinched BTCC car textures from ToCA Touring Car Championship). This earlier version is particularly horrible!

Cars Hard 4: not guessed by anyone! Thunder Chrome (would have accepted Superrennen which was the German version): this is a truly odd DOS racing game, where you have to interact with live video clips of your (bizarre) opponents, and encourage them to race you via multiple-choice questions/interrogation! If you win the race, you win their cars! Sadly the handling is terrible!

Cars Hard 5: correctly guessed by @Zuffenhausen Weiss (and almost by @AnthoM23 + @Ecclesiaste) - Truck Racing by Renault Trucks - this is a free title by Game Seed, which is still available to download now!

Cars Hard 6: correctly guessed by @The-IC - Victory Road - it looks like Daytona USA, but it's a fan game. The second track is set around the UK seaside town of Margate!

I've seen Hard 6 before and I remember it's an attempted clone of Daytona USA on PC, but the name escapes me.

Car Hard 6: is it the Saturn version (havn't played it)? gfx looks from emulator, but what's that track?

Car Medium7: indeed, the game looks "Turbo Cup" from Loriciel but I don't think it's the right cover as there' a Ferrari and says Turbo Cup CHALLENGE. The car ingame is a Porsche 944 Turbo.
