help with mods please

guy's I know I'm thick but ....didnt there used to be a "how to install mods" for each sim awhile ago?? I have d/loaded a few mods for AC some work ok others I cant seem to put in the right files etc... I'm an OLD man who needs hand holding....

Edit: I'm told if you're using Content Manager it can be easier - I don't use it so can't advise, though there are many Youtube vids showing how to install through it,
