Well they might be struggling in Formula One, but McLaren sure know a thing or two about creating outstanding GT3 cars, and the brand new 720S looks like no exception...
Set to debut in racing series from 2019, the 720S GT3 is the latest and greatest creation from the designers at Woking. Based on the formidable 720S Super Series supercar from the British manufacturer, the new 720S GT3 is now on track and preparing to ship to eligible customers for racing in GT3 specification series throughout the world next season.
Having hit the circuit already in what is planned to be a dedicated few months of testing prior to shipping cars to customers for racing programmes from the 2019 season, the new and remarkable looking 720S GT3 is the latest in a very successful roll call of McLaren GT3 race cars, starting their short but illustrious history in the category with the 12C in 2012 and later and 650S for the 2015 racing season.
As is the case with the current global GT3 regulations the new 720S GT3 will be heavily based on the road going version of the car, something McLaren will have taken into consideration when designing the 720 Super Series as the design of this latest supercar from McLaren already heavily relies of aerodynamic principles developed during the McLaren's long history in Grand Prix racing.
Powered by a 4 litre twin turbo V8 and featuring all of the latest safety and performance alterations allowed under GT3 regulations, the new 720S has a big set of shoes to fill as it looks to replace the incredibly successful 650S, something that McLaren are keen to ensure as they embark on a testing programme over the coming months to fine tune the car prior to it entering competition in the new season.
Fancy one for yourself? No problem, you just need £440,000 and a team to run it... (at least we should get it in a sim racing game next year... )
