How do i add a pitlane?

Ive got my track layout and i try to add an open ended track as pitlane which is obviously wrong because i end up with grass spots all over it when i add the terrain

So is there a proper way to add a pitlane?

Maybe the real pro's know the answer, but from what I read/saw you make an open track for this. While dragging the end point and holding the M key you can glue the track points to the base track.
The final touch on this is matching the surface to align perfectly on the each other.
