How do I disable the driver ladder HUD? Takes up too much space for me. Whatever I disable in options, it's always there.

I suppose you mean the MFD at the left ?
If so ... just assign a button to toggle this MFD .... as you might need it for pitstops.
There are different choices as for example
- ranking in race
- ranking position on track
- pitstop .....
And the last one before restarting from the 1st one is .......... fully invisible.
With an assigned button you'll be able to have the pitstop window opening when entering the pitlane or you'll be able to toggle this MFD to let it appear on track when needed.

You can also scale the HUD in settings to reduce the size of everything as well as change margin widths
