I want to see innovation in Formula 1

Posted this in the FP2 thread but it seems better fitting here. I'd like to hear your opinions, i think they should stay. I want to see innovation, even if we arent used to the looks of it.

Could you explain to me why that is your opinion?

I am just a bit stunned that people always want to have these stuff gone.
I think these are innovative solutions. Yep, not really beautful, but innovative. On one hand we complain that the cars look too similar, on the other hand people complain about stuff like that. I like tom see a nose like the Force India, T-Wings, fins. At least from an aerodynamical point of view.

Look at the past:

You'd say that the wings, especially the front wings, are really ugly compared to what there was before.
But since then almost every car had wings like that, do we complain about them? No.

That's why i am quite disappointed that Brawn does not like fins and T-Wings.

Or look at this early rearwing. Not that beautiful, but lovable.

Or this, not particularly beautiful but still legendary and innovative.

Most innovative ideas are banned.
  • active and passive suspension.
  • old style ground effect, including skirts
  • more than four wheels attached on a F1 car. (Tyrrell P-34)
  • traction control
  • ABS
  • mass-damper
  • twin chassis
  • flexible wings.
  • CVT transmission. (Williams FW-15 CVT)
  • Wankel- or Turbine engines
  • F-duct
  • double diffuser

btw: please, next time don't delete the original posts in the original topic, but add a link to this topic in the replies.

Personally i think that innovation in some cases were only meant to make the car faster. Making cars faster has one limitation and that is the driver. Drivers like Gilles Villeneuve mentioned getting black outs in their wing cars in the early 80's. Then a skirt would get stuck and get loose shortly afterwards resulting in a huge peak of G-forces.

All of those, apart from ABS and TC, are banned pretty much everywhere.
