Is a controller OK to use

I can play F1 2019 fine with a controller but when I tried Project 2 Cars it was awful, is this OK with a controller? maybe one day I might get a wheel but space and time are against me at the moment so a controller is my only option and I am looking to get into other racing besides F1 and MotoGP.

Whats the general feeling please

I use XBox one Controller with this game and have no problems at all. I also have Assetto Corsa, Automobolista, RaceRoom Experience, rFactor 2, F1 2017 & Project Cars 2. I agree PC2 is awful, but I have made adjustments and I find it at least driveable.

It's playable, but has no value whatsoever for playing reputable simracing game title. If you want competitive result(consistent lap time) by using a gamepad... stick to Codemasters games or Gran Turismo.

They aren't bad titles since. Some fanboy don't like them because there's no garbage value to insert to win effortless, but the driving definitely offer simulation value.

As a user of XBOX one controller, I completely disagree. Yes, a wheel is obviously better, but I for one get GREAT enjoyment, which for me, is why I drive all my race sims.

I used a xbox controller for several years (gtr2, rfactor, AC and now ACC) before switching to a wheel 2 month ago, and it was still great fun. For sure it is harder to be consistent with a controller, but you can still achieve very good laptimes and have great battles ! Spend some time fiddling the settings and you will be ok

Wrong. You can easily do consistent and quick times with a gamepad. Some people have no choice but to use a controller so why should they stick to codemasters or gran turismo?! stupid statement.

Im currently staying at my parents. Took my pc with me but couldnt take my wheel so am using xbox one controller and its fine.

I guess I need to insert more detail as to why. Sure you can insert assist value on gamepad setting(I'm not not even going to write about the gameplay assist) to pull consistent time, but that's is in fact playing the game wrong. It make the car handling so muted that it hurt the handling experience to the point you learn nothing.

In arcade game the handling is more exaggerated, but they ain't easy either. Fun is about being able to play with the handling of the car, but simracing is all understeer & muted experience, especially with a gamepad.

So yeah, you get thread about insert gamepad setting, but it's just driving wrong to the next level.

It's hard to pull a decent experience with gamepad in simracing. Nothing wrong with the genre.

Playing arcade games with gamepad gives you a better transition to simracing with a wheel, than playing a simracing game with a gamepad & go straight to the wheel.

He asked if it functioned well enough to play the game, Not if you personally were against the idea.

No such thing as playing the game wrong.

Everyone's preferences, Level of commitment and situation is different, that's why games have options and are scalable.

If you set it up right you dont understeer all the time. Like has been said not everyone has the money or space for a wheel setup.....you're seem like the type of person that would cry if a game didnt have VR.........
Indeed, some advanced high quality setting you can literally hard tap left right on the joystick & rather use the Dpad for more efficiency.

You'll never hear about gamepad setting on arcade game, because they're superior breed of gamers. ;)

I can't help myself -you clearly have no idea how or what it feels like to use a gamepad.

No one would dispute that using a wheel is much better experience. However a gamepad controller on any race sim can be used efficiently and have full control of the driving experience. As time has passed I have found that I have become quite a "good" driver (using gamepad). I have seen races between drivers using gamepads verses wheel, with the gamepad user comparing favorably.

My message to you is simply, gamepad users enjoy the race sims as much as any wheel driver. Get over it!!!
