DiRT Rally Is Dirt Rally close to RBR's physics/FFB now?

I feel it is getting quite close to the legend, but still only say 60% of RBR's physics in my opinion. The FFB is getting there. The graphics far surpass RBR and as soon as CM give us a proper external replay with just trackside cams, I'll be very happy. The graphics quality is superb in my opinion.

Dirt Rally
Graphics 9 ( Wet tarmac reflections need fixing )
Physics 6 ( Needs more work )
FFB 5 ( Needs more work )
Audio 8 ( Lots of sound FX are missing like Impacts, Tire squeal etc etc )
Stages 9 ( More unique stages are needed not just 2 per country )
Damage 9

RBR
Graphics 5

If I compare the new built 0.5 and IMPACT mod FFB to LFS(which I'm still playing) and Assetto Corsa, DR physics and FFB (G25) are not that bad on gravelstages for 'any car'. Tarmac is another story.
Imo best are Gr B 205/RS200/Delta S4 and rwd cars like 037(great car on gravel) , Manta, and even Stratos is coming alive( meaning being more realisticaly tailhappy) . So I'm happy with the way things are heading @ Codies/DR.

Cheers

that's a nice breakdown above, though having never sat in a real rally car, my ideas of both physics and ffb are just wild guesses. as it is now, it's the must play title for me in the current rally field, just note how nicely the virtual cars lean into the ruts in the welsh woods, that is really close to what one can feel in rbr. very very happy to get this quality for such few bucks, glad i signed on early. also, the online challenges are neat, it's what i sometimes do now at the very end of the day, 10 mins of relaxation with no frills attached.

But hang on, do we really want to have RBR's style of physics? I just read this quote from the chief game designer of Dirt Rally, which is a pretty interesting viewpoint:

"However, my personal feeling and the feeling of a number of rally drivers I've spoken to who've had experience of Richard Burns Rally out of the box - I'm not talking about the modded version - certainly it's too hard. It's a simulation that goes beyond what is real, and if rally cars fully drove like that, there wouldn't be many rally drivers left in the world because they'd all be wrapped around trees."

I´m just wondering how many of the big critics from Dirt Rally, have been seated in a real rally car to say that physics of RBR are more real? Of course everyone has is opinion and one thing I learned in Sim Racing. Every Sim has your pros and cons as everything in life. In this moment and based in my slight experience onboard of some rally cars (WRC and S1600 as passenger) and small pocket rocket rally cars as driver, Dirt Rally are more imersive and realistic and totally agree with the comment right before mine. Plus I've asked some actual rally drivers as Bernardo Sousa from WRC2 category about is opinion regarding Dirt as he was a former racer in RBR and is answer was very clear: "Very gooood, at this stage Dirt it's much more real then RBR". That's my 10 cents :)

I really never understood people who said RBR is too hard !

I wonder if they have driven a real car at all ?

RBR is very easy to drive at slow to medium pace and obviously harder when you go fast but that's just the same as it is in real life.

Dirt Rally is by far much better Audio & Graphically wise but Physics and FFB wise DR has a long way to go before it equals or surpasses RBR IMO.

The most annoying problem with DR at the moment IMO is that most cars stop way too fast when you release the throttle (Try the RS Fiesta on tarmac and you'll soon see what I mean).

I could be driving a whole stage without touching the brakes (except for the hairpins).

It's really frustrating and your're bound to lose momentum when you lose that much speed so fast.

I can only base my opinion on watching videos and seeing how real cars behave vs what's going on in the game(s), so take it for what you will. For example, the Escort Mk2 on gravel. It's going to be sideways quite a bit (or at least want to be), a lot of counter steering, a lot of on and off the throttle. In DR, the only time you really have to take care is around very tight corners. Aside from that it feels like driving a group A car. Flat out, no real concern of the rear getting away, little counter steering needed. On the other side, rbr, it seems like you have to be a damn alien just to keep it on the road (and pointed in the right direction), let alone drive it competitively. At least with this car, I think the best would be a mix of DR and RBR.

FFB, for me it's hands down still RBR. There's so much more feeling of the car and road in rbr than in DR. I've tried the recommended settings, setting things to the max, setting them low. It feels, unfinished maybe? I can't feel the front lose grip in DR, it's easily noticeable in rbr. If I don't play DR for a couple days or so, the first time back it feels weird, I have to get used to it all over again. Where as in rbr, I can play after not playing for days and it feels fine.

The engine braking is another thing too. In the Mk2 on Dyffryn Afon, you don't need to really touch the brake at all until you get past the first split, when you come up to that immediate/deceptive 2 right (can't remember exactly what the callout is).

I read somewhere on the official forum that the issue of the car's stopping too fast was known by the devs !

Hopefully they're working hard to fix this extremely annoying issue !

So I booted up RBR to feel how dated it should feel after using DR for weeks.

I was completely shocked how raw and good RBR still felt.

The RBR cars felt so alive and responsive and in comparison DR felt very forgiving and like the cars had some kind of stability control ( like submerged in a secret liquid :p ) on them or something.

Later on I found this Travis Pastrana vid which to me feels just like watching a RBR clip of my own driving.

The car behaves more or less exactly as in RBR IMO.

IMO the current DR feels very much like a very tame RBR, Physics and FFB wise.

Of course DR outperforms RBR on all other departments but we already knew that :)

IMO Physics and FFB are the essential ingredients that makes a Sim last a very long time.
