DiRT Rally Is DiRT Rally simulation ?

Guys, I made an ultimate test. Coming from iRacing, rF, SimBin, Assetto Corsa, RBR, etc... I made 3 videos. I bought tha game and recorded my first ever rides. I didn't know what to expect, so I was treating it like sim and gave it a go. Here are my thoughts:

This is how awesome Dirt Rally can be with a RWD on gravel. Not a perfect run by any means but satisfying as hell. This is the first time ever in a game a RWD car actually feels like a RWD car do on gravel.

 
No it's not, as you can see in a video. And you can powerslide as well on a way out just by de-clutching and full throttle. But this counts only for Group B cars. WRC is underpowered and very sticky, Group A the same. But pendulum effect works nicely, only the powerslide out of the corner on gravel does not work according to RL.
 
Nice driving. It's still too grippy as it's not possible to loose the traction in second gear and full throttle, but it sure is fun. Try Group B, IMHO the best physics so far.


I haven't used the 4WD cars much but the traction brakes in a belieavable way when using the RWD cars. Might be a tad too much grip, certainly not much though.
 
It's in early access, FFB isn't nearly anywhere close to where it needs to be.
I think it's way too early to really judge the game.

Those who bought in hopefully give valueable feedback in the forums to try to create the sim that this title could (and should?) be.
Until release i call it neither a game nor a sim nor a simcade, i call it a work in progress ;)

I hate that first hairpin, you do it so easily. This run my setup is at default. I'm not a car guy so I'm still learning to differentiate what understeer and oversteer are. I'm still learning which setup cause what reaction to the car's physics. Any tips is appreciated.
 
Hello! At the current state DiRT Rally is not a sim at all. It is just DiRT 3 stripped of Ken Block silly stuff and with improved physics. I really appreciate Codemasters direction with this tittle, however physics are just not acurate at all. It is a huge problem for anyone coming from RBR, or really any rally enthusiast familiar with real life onboards. The biggest problem is breaking distances- there is so much grip, You can forget about paying attention to breaking points and car inertia (the latter one is pretty much non existend). Just apply brake close to a corner and that's it. The most noticeable problem is Monte Carlo- the grip is just ridiculous. There is a way to lowe cars grip by modyfing certain game parameters and it works great while cornering, but for some reason breaking distances are still way too short. There are two topic on Codemasters forums I've explained what's wrong backing my statement with appropate videos, however community over that boards apparently considers DiRT Rally to be new real world, and real world to have too little grip. As for realisic RWD experience I recommend NGP physics for RBR.

Long story short- I cannot recommend this game for a sim oriented gamer at all. Maybe when mods are introduced physics will be tweaked, but I am not sure how sophisticated the phyiscs engine itself is. Thanks!

Surely they need to make the game available to all people and all experiences and maybe not aiming it directly at the sim market? If they make it uber realistic then not many people would be able to play it as Rallying in RL is one of the most hardest driving styles to master. Would think if it was super realistic it would take a massive amount of the market away from all the people in ditches or going down pikes peak the wrong way on their roofs. Still for the few people that do want a sim it would be nice to have the option. I'm waiting to see how much of a sim it is before I buy it as I loved Dirt but was to Ken Blocky for me and wanted something with the visuals but the game play of Colin Mcrae.
 
From what I have played of the Mk2 Escort on Gravel (which is a fair bit now) I am quite excited for what this title may become, it is already giving me tons of thrills with no aids, a H-Shifter and Clutch, very impressed and very excited for what it may become once some wrinkles are ironed out, for me RBR always had funky Tarmac physics, and most of its praise has been super inflated for lack of a worthy competitor for many years to push forward the genre of Rallying, finally we have a modern title which starts to show signs of dethroning RBR and moving forward the whole genre in a direction which many want to see it go, as usual many of the people who find it too easy are not going fast enough most of the time....and that is not to say any element of what we have been given is perfect, just that many opinions are sadly based around something they are not extracting the most from yet, better to hammer the hell out of it and be posting top end times before making a real decision on how hard or easy it is ?

But it doesn't unless you are talking about RBR completely unmodified. You can pick the gravel tires and drive on tarmac perfectly fine. There were one or two minor typos / adjustment errors in (dry) tarmac tires. So I don't get your point. There is competition. There are RBR tarmac stages converted to rFactor and AC and I don't even see why I would drive them more than once in those sims, when the same stage is available in RBR.
