Just copy and paste the "asset_groups" file of the mod IN your f1 2017 game files.
In game, you need to select the first fan-made helmet (Near the bottom of the list).
DON'T FORGET TO TO A BACKUP

I'm afraid it will... I don't know how the 2018 mod you are talking about is made but try installing my mod first, then the 2018 one, it might work. Not sure though
Or else use the ego archiver as I put the dds file in the folder too, you won't have any problems
