Mercedes to Run Latest Spec Engine in Australia

All Mercedes customer teams will use the latest version of the German engine at the Australian GP, despite reliability concerns.

Rumours spread during preseason testing that the latest spec engine’s introduction could be postponed as Mercedes was concerned about a potential problem with the crankshaft.

A high-level source at Mercedes has dismissed the rumours.

The manufacturer team will use the latest spec power unit at the first race of the season, and their customer teams – Williams and Force India currently – will have the same opportunity.

It’s expected Mercedes had been running its engine in a conservative mode during testing, meaning Ferrari may not have the advantage it appeared to at Barcelona when the engine is turned up.

It is very obvious that Mercedes were sandbagging during pre-season.
Having said that, I do believe that Ferrari can close the gap to Mercedes or overtake Redbull.
