One of the pleasant side-effects of testing possible S9 league cars was that I didn't have to learn a new track for this event!
So despite missing out on the usual mondaynight practice I could still quickly find a steady pace, and as Warren's Goodwood Mini setup suited this track perfectly, I even ended up on pole!! Twice!
With extremely small margins to Senad in R1 and Howard in R2, but hey, I did get them!
So @
Warren Dawes :Thank you very much, sir!
My R1 start was good, but Howards' was just perfect and he blasted past me at the start. Him running wide in T1 allowed me to sneak through on the inside though, and with David on our tails we started an exciting close run with very very very close laptimes until just past halfway when Howard had an unlucky crash in T1 and I had a lonely drive to the finish after that. Great first half racing action and a win, so a
for me.
One of the pitfalls of running 900° rotation on your wheel is that if you don't pay attention
you might end up standing on the starting grid with your steering wheel 360° to the left without even knowing
... So when the lights go out, the first thing your car does is hit the left side Armco
making you wonder "What the H.?"
Fortunately it didn't cost me too much time, and I could still enter T1 in 3rd place. Messed up T2 and T3 though, so I set off chasing Howard, Stu and David with Senad all over my rear. Up to 2nd when Stu and David had an accident, with Senad behind looking everywhere for a place to pass me, as apparently he was much faster in the opening laps. He did get in front of me later on, until about 10 mins in when I carried more speed onto the back straight, slipstreamed into his bootlid and moved my car next to his at the inside while braking at the end of the straight. With Senad aiming for the apex there was some contact but I felt it didn't harm either of us that much; one corner later Senad decided to ESC out though
. I'm sorry if I caused you to; It didn't seem like a dishonest move to me..
Spent the rest of the race inspecting Howards taillights from various distances; it was pretty close all race long but he just wouldn't make any mistake so 2nd place was the max for me..
Good stuff all the way!
Thank you all for racing, CY next time.
