Ok, I got an alert for this, but I didn't get alerts for updated mods for some reason

Indeed you don't get alerts for updated mods - because "file update notifications have been disabled" because of "a technical issue".

More seriously I've rolled out some code I was testing during the server migration recently. Notifications and mail alerts have now been enabled for new and updated mods.
