online help please

hi everyone, need some help. me and my friend have been trying to race online together for days now. we have all the same cars, tracks add-ons and everything. we go to the server list and we both see different games eg, we both were trying to race in the megane cup, but he can see around 20 races and i can only see 4 or 5. why is this. we've tried putting the same ip address and made sure all our settings are the same. i love this game but this problem is really starting to put me off it. please help
