Any details on the "massive update"? It's hard to help you if you don't really share any information.
However, it's very unlikely it's the update itself. If you experience problems after Windows update, it's usually due to something else that needs updating, or a hidden issue you were previously unaware of.

I know exactly how you feel. Fortunately I've had the experience of watching my son upgrading some months ago and despite some issues he is happy with the latest build and has convinced me to upgrade. I agree I don't like the loss of control, but I use an Android phone and an ipad so I kind of lost that on my devices some time ago.Have been reluctant to upgrade to Windows 10. Forced upgrades and whatnot. Seeing how long I can put it off
