Problem downshifting / Lock preset

Hi. Two questions:

First, sometimes I cannot downshift and I have to retry. I thought my sequential gear shifting was the problem but I see it's the same with the keyboard. Could it be something with the game trying to prevent the revs going too high? Any way to get rid of that?

Second, every time I start the game the custom helps preset is set the default settings. Any way to lock it with the settings I want. I don't want to have to remember to enable certain things and disable others every time!

If a car has overrev protection there's no way to turn it off, just wait until you're at lower rpm to shift. It's a feature of the car's shifting system.
