Production of Dodge Viper to end this year

Right on Brother, I hear ya, it's all good.
The car, which debuted in 1992, was discontinued in 2010 in the midst of the Great Recession and the automaker's Chapter 11 bankruptcy, causing the plant where it is built to be idled.http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/chrysler/2016/06/21/production-dodge-viper-end-year/86177704/
The Dodge Viper super car, loved by enthusiasts and collectors, will die again this year but will go out in style.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said today it is offering five limited-edition models to commemorate the final year of production and celebrate its 25th anniversary. Each model will be inspired by historic Vipers from the past and produced in very small numbers.

“The Dodge Viper has had a great run and, 25 years after it was first introduced, it leaves the super car world reaching for the records it continues to set,” Tim Kuniskis, FCA's head of passenger cars and the Dodge brand, said in a statement.

I'm not a big fan of Dodge, especially after my roommate shows his insane fanboyism about Dodge. But I still feel bad for FCA that the sales of the Viper doesn't meet their expectations and they have to kill it off.

FCA screwed up by putting the Viper in a price point that was too high. Sure it had a lot of performance, but at $140K you could get a Porsche 911 or AMG Mercedes, and for $100K you could get a fully loaded Z06 Corvette, which doesn't perform quite as well as the Viper, but has way better street manners. They ended up cutting the price to around $100K to get them out the door, and of course they took it in the shorts. I think it was a failure by FCA to understand the market.

Chrysler can build Vipers and Hellcats, but they can't build people want, nor can they build something well enough that they don't get recalled every time there is a day in a week. They really need to sort that out, then pour resources into fast cars.
